CPS #155 Congrats

Hey there,

For the CPS challenge, I made a card following this layout:

I just found out that a family member is pregnant, so I think I'll give this to her to celebrate the good news!

The vellum strip goes around the whole card, so it needs to be slid off before opening:

I made the card using extra paper/supplies from this cake I did this past week. I love having leftover coordinating papers on hand! (I hoard scraps, so I value when I actually use them from time to time....)

Embellish Birthdays Color Challenge

For this Embellish Magazine challenge, the colors were pink, brown, blue, and green:

Any birthday-themed project can be made. Inspired by all of the amazing whimsical birthday cakes that some high end bakers make, I made this "cake of boxes."

I made the flower from a tutorial at Mainly Flowers. I love how it turned out, and I can see myself making many more of these in the future! Each tier of the cake is a box (I got the unfinished paper mache boxes at the craft store), and I glued the bottom lid to the middle box, and the middle lid to the top box. I plan on giving this to my cousin for her birthday...it isn't for another few months, so for now I'll show you would it would look like with gifts:

I really enjoyed these colors, so I just couldn't resist grabbing my coordinating tableware to make it feel like we're having a party!

Kazan's Sketch 46

I made this card for the recent challenge at 2 Sketches 4 You. I decided to go with just a tag, although I now realize the message I write on it will have to be pretty small to fit on it!

waiting for warmer weather...

My husband and I went into Boston for some lunch yesterday, and it was sooo warm! Not sure what the temp was, but people were walking around without coats, some had on shorts! I cannot get Spring off of my mind! I made this card for Moxie Fab World's embroidery floss challenge, following a CPS sketch.

I crocheted the flowers with embroidery floss, then sewed them onto the card.

Thinking of You

This is quite possibly my favorite card- I adore the color combination Becky chose as well as her design recipe!

Here is my take on the challenge:

For the positive and negative halves of the card, I die cut the birds instead of stamping. I also took time to do the inside!

New Wedding Card

This is my 2nd submission for Caardvark's Wedding Card challenge (my first can be found here). I really like the way the colors work together for this card:

Cardstock is from Nicole and Recollections, the rhinestones are Studio18, and the ribbon is Offray. I die cut the tree from a royalty-free image, and the font is ballroom tango regular.

ColourQ #19

When making a card for colourQ, the "close to cocoa" color was not in my paper stash. So I went to the paint area while at the store and grabbed some samples of a similar color- works every time!

Floral

For CPS #153, I made this card:

Sorry for the short post (does anyone even come to my blog anyway?), but I'm going to go eat some pizza with my husband!

Love Lifts Me Up

Cheesy title for a card, huh? But you know what? I like cheese.
Here it is:

I made this card for the CARDS blog's challenge to use fabric on a Vday card.

Hello Card

I love this color combination! For Embellish Magazine's color/ribbon challenge, I used these colors...
...to make this card:
The flower is made from 2 layers of vellum I hand cut (so easy!) with an eyelet center. When I finished the card, I noticed that it also fits with this week's Get Sketchy #24. Yay!

"Paint" by Number

Wow...quite possibly the fastest card I have ever made. I think I came in at just about 10 minutes (most of which was spent making embroidered letters). For Papertrey Ink's "Paint" by Number challenge, my color assignment was:
Using the sketch which was also provided, I made this card-

The photo isn't so great so it might be hard to tell, but the embroidery is the kraft color, and the card base is the vintage cream.

Patchwork Hearts

For this week's Tuesday Trigger, the inspiration photo was...

I just love the color combination, especially the pinks and greens, and wanted my card to reflect that. For the hearts, I chose not to punch them because I wanted them to be imperfect (maybe more whimsy?). I also added a few hearts to the inside to connect with the front.

Wedding!

Caardvarks is having a contest to make a wedding card, and the winner will be published in Cards magazine! You can submit as often as you want, so I might do another later in the week. For now, I'm really happy with how this card came out:

Not sure if I have to list materials, but here goes:
Cardstock: Recollections
Patterned Paper (from left to right): Me and My BIG Ideas, Creating Keepsakes Sandylion Design, Diecuts With a View, American Crafts, Paper Company
Ribbon: Offray
Eyelets: Making Memories
Stamp: Inkadinkado

My husband, Dave, wanted to try taking some photos of the card, and he did this cool one below:

PTI Emboss Resist Challenge

Papertrey Ink has a challenge to use an emboss resist technique...and it's deadline is early tomorrow morning! With such short notice and dwindling daylight, I was unable to capture a good photo....I hope these are sufficient!

Instead of using ink to cover the embossed lettering, I busted out my good ol' watercolor set. The heat-set powder worked wonderfully to resist the watery paint. I was able to freely create the trees without fear of ruining my stamping!

Mini Cards

So I decided to try making some 3"x3" mini cards. To keep it simple, I used the same colors for each. Now all I need are some tiny envelopes!
