Craft Dash: Fail!

Jingle came over the other day for our weekly Wednesday craft night.   Sadly, Jess and Suzanne were unable to make it, so it was just the 2 of us.

The night was full of wigs, juicy jellybeans, Stamping Royalty entries, and goofiness! You'd think we were on something... hah!

Well anyway, I totally failed. My card was not finished in the 10 minutes allowed for the Craft Dash Challenge :(   At the last possible second, I needed to put some green on my card, so here's what I did...

Yikes.  Jennifer was so confused when she saw me tie up that green strip...and we think I may have started a new trend!

Of course, after the fact I went back and finished the card:

You can't really see the scoring detail, maybe it's a little clearer in this shot:

And now the most embarrassing part...showing you the video. Sorry for the bad lighting. For those of you who pay attention to my blog- yes- the wig is from my PAX costume! I'm running behind on sharing those photos with you, but when I get to it, it'll be worth it!

Watch at your own risk (we sound like annoying giggling girls at some parts! hehe)

Wednesday Wishlist

Sorry, I've been slacking on the wishlists...I've missed 2 weeks, but now I'm back!

Oh man, this set makes me laugh so much!  I love that there are animal silhouettes, not because animals are cute, but because animals are delicious! (sorry, vegetarians/vegans/other non-meat eaters)

Yes, please.  In every color :)

Small, sweet, and cheap! I love cheap, and I love saying "dude!"

I've been avoiding this one for a while.  Sequins always remind me of cheap sequined trim that my grandmother had with her sewing supplies.  And it smelled weird.  It also reminds me of my the heinously tacky dance costumes I wore when I was 3.  BUT...I've seen so many people do great things with sequins, that I can't hold off any longer.  I will be giving this trend a try!

Now I have a question for you.  What is your favorite black cardstock?  I need a true pitch black cardstock that is heavy enough for card bases, but not terribly expensive.  I like cheap.  Thanks bunches!!

Happy Wednesday!

CSS Around the Block

Good morning!  Today I'm sharing a card that was a little more experimental for me!  The Clear and Simple Stamps group project for today is "Around the Block."  The challenge is to use an acrylic block in a fun way to create a background!

I took some photos of the process, although I have to apologize for the poor quality- my husband was out that day with our "real" camera, so I had to use my phone.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I don't have masking paper (I NEED to get some!).  Instead, I used some post-it note cardstock that I have.  I'm not even really sure where it came from, haha.  Well, as I said earlier, I was experimenting- so I rolled with it.

I die cut "joy," and adhered it to my cardstock, making sure to seal the edges.

Next, I inked up my acrylic block by randomly dabbing on some colors.

Here's what it looked like all inked up:

Next came the messy part. I sprayed the whole thing with some pinkish glimmer mist, and flipped it over onto my cardstock:

It actually looks pretty heinous at this point, doesn't it?!  I was almost certain that I would have to scrap the whole thing and start again.  But instead of giving up, I grabbed my heat tool to speed up the drying process.

I also misted the whole thing once more for good measure :)

I was aware that since I had a watery mess on my hands, some MUST have seeped through my "mask," and I was right.  But you know what? I actually really liked the look!

The colors are a little grungy looking above (again- camera phone pics), so here's the final card again so you can see what it looks like in real life:

The final steps include stamping the sentiment, drawing a thin black border, mounting it onto black cardstock then adhering a textured card base. Pretty cool, and definitely different from what I usually do!

Laura and CSS are also posting today, so please check them out!

Tuesday Trigger

Sorry I've been MIA for awhile!  PAX East was this weekend, and of course my husband and I were cosplaying.  This whole week has been a crazy, mad dash to finish up all of the details, so sadly papercrafting took a backseat to that.  Expect to see a PAX post sometime this week or early next, as well as more cards!

Today I'm squeezing in an entry to this week's Tuesday Trigger, an interesting and beautiful dress from Giambattista Valli.  I used some patterned paper- I've been so inspired by the Pattern Play class I was taking/guest designing for!  I made some layered butterfly embellishments (a la Betsy Veldmen) by cutting each part from a sheet of paper from the Margarita Collection by American Crafts.   I played around with foam and regular adhesive for a multi-layered look:

Lastly, I was inspired to paint the dress too!  I added gold glitter for her snake belt, and a punched paper butterfly on her face like the photo (accented with glitter as well)

Thanks for stopping by!

Cool, right??  I had a million ideas for this one, and here is the one that ended up coming to life:

I am in love with that die.  I've had it for a while, but only used it once or twice.  I really hope you play along for this challenge...it should be fun!
